No 1990s textbooks and no «sit and copy it out». An approach matched to age and character — so the child wants to come back for the next lesson.

Lessons that grab attention, not a box-ticking syllabus

Preschoolers respond to games, cartoons and short stories. Older children enjoy quizzes, projects and conversations about what genuinely interests them. Teenagers work with the same content they watch and talk about in everyday life.

The programme adapts to the child

The test on arrival shows the real level and the weak spots. We build the programme around those, not around a generic Year 3 course. The teacher sees where it’s boring, where there’s tension, where they «didn’t get it», and changes the approach right there in the lesson.

We speak, not just write

A child starts speaking from the very first lesson: simple phrases, everyday situations. By the end of term they can hold a flowing conversation. Grammar and writing follow naturally, through speech, rather than the other way round.

At what age can a child really start learning Latvian?
From age 4, and it’s a wonderful age to start. At 4–6 the language comes through play, songs and cartoons. A child gets used to speaking and listening before they decide it’s a «scary school subject». Lessons for the youngest are held in person only, while school-age children can learn perfectly well online too.
My child barely knows Latvian. Will they cope?
Yes. First we check the real level, then we choose a format and level to match. «Barely knows it» is the most common starting point, not a problem: usually a child learns a little at school but is shy about speaking or gets confused. That’s normal and soon sorted out.
What if my child gets bored in lessons?
The teacher notices straight away and changes the approach right there in the lesson. If that doesn’t help, we change the teacher. Boredom is a signal that the lesson isn’t hitting the child’s age or interests. We pick topics around what matters to them: sport, cartoons, video games, friends. And if the chemistry with the teacher isn’t there, we’ll swap calmly, with no fuss.
How can I claim back part of my child’s tuition costs through my tax return?
Tuition at Latvian Easy can be included as eligible expenses (attaisnotie izdevumi) in your VID tax return. We provide a certificate and payment documents. From 2025 the refund is calculated at a rate of 25.5% within a limit of €600 per person per year — up to €153 back. It applies to a child’s tuition too, and any amount above the limit carries over to the next three years.
Where are the in-person lessons held in Riga?
In central Riga, at Citadeles iela 6. There’s transport nearby and convenient parking, and we’ll send precise directions before the first lesson. There’s an online format for children too, available from anywhere in the world.
What if we miss a lesson?
For one-on-one and pair formats we reschedule; for groups you’ll get the recording and materials. A one-on-one lesson is rescheduled free of charge if you let us know at least 12 hours in advance; with later cancellation the lesson is counted as held. A group lesson isn’t rescheduled — the teacher records it, and the tasks will be waiting in the online classroom.
Which format should I choose — group, one-on-one or pair?
A group suits sociable children and is kinder on the budget. One-on-one is better if a child is shy or needs a more personal approach. A pair works wonderfully when a friend, brother or sister is alongside. Not sure? Message us — we’ll advise based on your child’s age and character.
